Chicago man sentenced to 12 years for drug induced homicide
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced the sentencing of Shawn Smith, a Chicago resident, to twelve years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Smith, 33, pleaded guilty to one count of Drug Induced Homicide, a Class X Felony. The sentence was delivered by Judge Daniel Guerin.

Tazwell County man charged with theft from Bloomingdale Best Buy
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Bloomingdale Director of Police Frank Giammarese have announced charges against Domenico Polizzi, a man from Tazwell County. Polizzi is accused of stealing over $725 worth of merchandise from the Best Buy in Bloomingdale, located at 350 W. Army Trail Road. The 34-year-old, residing on the 400 block of Daniel Parkway in Washington, Illinois, appeared in court facing one count of burglary and two counts of retail theft, all classified as Class 3 felonies.

Rocky Miller, 45, from W. 79th Street, and Vincent Ely, 21, from Leavitt Street, face charges of Attempt Residential Burglary, a Class 2 felony. Both appeared in First Appearance Court on separate days.

Bolingbrook man detained after new charges while on pre-trial release
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Woodridge Chief of Police Tom Stefanson announced that Judge Joshua Dieden has granted the State's motion to detain Alexis Alcauter, a Bolingbrook resident, pending trial. Alcauter is accused of fleeing from police and crashing his vehicle into another occupied car. He appeared in court charged with one count of aggravated fleeing and eluding, along with several misdemeanor and petty driving offenses.

West Chicago man detained pre-trial for alleged fatal fentanyl supply
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and West Chicago Chief of Police Colin Fleury have announced that Judge Joshua Dieden has approved the state's request to detain a West Chicago man before his trial. The man, Habile Jacob, 26, is charged with supplying fentanyl leading to a woman's fatal overdose. Jacob faces one count of Drug Induced Homicide and one count of Delivery of a Controlled Substance – Fentanyl.

State's Attorney's Office welcomes therapy dog 'Crew' for child victims
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and his office welcomed their newest team member, Duo Dog “Crew,” to the office. DuPage County Clerk of the Circuit Court Candice Adams administered Crew’s oath of office at a ceremony attended by many of Crew’s new colleagues. Following the ceremony, Crew, a twenty-month-old Labrador Retriever, took time to introduce himself to his fellow employees and posed for photographs.

Court denies bail for three men accused of armed robbery in Downers Grove
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick announced that Judge Robert Gibson has granted the State’s motion to deny pre-trial release for three men accused of robbing a Downers Grove man at gunpoint on September 28, 2024. The defendants, Javari Williams, 18, Tremaine Nelson, 18, and Tyray Hemphill, 22, appeared in court charged with armed robbery with a firearm and aggravated vehicular hijacking.
