Teodoro Garcia-Lopez, 32, has been sentenced to 83 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections following his conviction for a home invasion and sexual assault of a ten-year-old girl in 2022. The announcement was made by DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin. A jury found Garcia-Lopez guilty on August 30, 2024, of multiple charges including three counts of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault - Victim Under Thirteen, two counts of Home Invasion, two counts of Aggravated Battery, and one count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse.

The incident occurred on January 23, 2022, when Garcia-Lopez entered the victim's home at around 7:30 p.m. The victim was alone with her brother when Garcia-Lopez ordered the brother out and assaulted the girl after she resisted. He fled the scene but was later detained by the victim's father and taken into custody by Addison Police Department on January 30.

State’s Attorney Berlin emphasized the impact of this crime stating that it destroyed "the safety and comfort a home provides." He praised law enforcement agencies and prosecutors involved in securing justice for the victim.

Garcia-Lopez will serve approximately sixty-three-and-a-half years before being eligible for parole under sentencing guidelines.
