DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Elmhurst Chief of Police Michael McLean announced that Judge Joshua Dieden has approved the State's request to detain a Bellwood man, Jordan Boyd, pre-trial. Boyd is accused of crashing into an Elmhurst squad car after allegedly consuming alcohol. The 24-year-old appeared in court charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors, including aggravated battery and DUI.

On November 3, 2024, Elmhurst police responded to a call on South Grace Avenue regarding a fight. It is alleged that Boyd drove his vehicle into a marked squad car, causing significant injuries to the officer inside. The officer suffered facial lacerations and burns from pepper spray that exploded during the incident. Both Boyd and the officer were taken to local hospitals for medical attention.

The investigation revealed signs of intoxication in Boyd, including slurred speech and glassy eyes. His blood alcohol content was reportedly 0.28. "The allegations that after Mr. Boyd had been drinking, he purposely drove his vehicle into an oncoming squad car, injuring the officer within, are shocking," said Berlin. He emphasized support for law enforcement and assured that such behavior would face legal consequences.

McLean commended his officers' response and expressed relief over the injured officer's recovery: "I am especially thankful our officer will recover from this collision."

Boyd is scheduled for arraignment on December 2, 2024. The public is reminded that charges are not proof of guilt; Boyd remains presumed innocent until proven otherwise.
