Sean Casten leads House Democrats against alleged illegal firings by DOE

Rep. Sean Casten, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Illinois’ 6th district since 2019, recently made several public statements on social media regarding various political issues. Born in Dublin, Ireland in 1971 and currently residing in Downers Grove, Casten has actively participated in legislative discussions and advocacy efforts.

On March 4, 2025, Rep. Casten stated that he led a group of 107 House Democrats in sending a letter to the Department of Energy Secretary Chris Wright. The letter demanded an end to what they termed as "the illegal firing of public servants," which includes those responsible for managing the United States' nuclear weapons arsenal. The following day, March 5, 2025, Rep. Casten expressed concerns about the impact of policies from the Trump Administration on community members. He shared a link for others to hear personal accounts from affected individuals "Countless members of our community have already felt..."

Later that day, he addressed an announcement by Jeff Bezos regarding editorial policy changes at The Washington Post's opinion page. Bezos had declared that it would only publish pieces supporting "personal liberties" and "the free market." In response to this change and WaPo's refusal to respond to his inquiry for clarification on these terms, Rep. Casten submitted a letter to the editor "Last week, @JeffBezos declared that..."
