Roselle Village Board reviews awards, redevelopment, and pedestrian safety projects at June meeting
June 22, the Village of Roselle Board held its regular meeting, addressing community awards, infrastructure improvements, and economic development initiatives.
The Roselle Lions Club recognized Firefighter/Paramedic Wes Hubsch and Detective Twarog as the 2025 Firefighter of the Year and Police Officer of the Year, respectively. According to the Village of Roselle, "The Roselle Lions Club has officially recognized one member of the Roselle Fire Department and the Roselle Police Department for their outstanding contributions to our community. Please join us to congratulate Firefighter/Paramedic Wes Hubsch and Detective Twarog for being named 2025 Firefighter of the Year and 2025 Police Officer of the year!"
The Board renewed the sublease for The Center Cup, an Itasca-based nonprofit operating at the Roselle Metra Station's indoor vendor space, through December 2026. The Center Cup provides free beverages for a suggested donation supporting local charities and has contributed $600 in donations to the Roselle Food Pantry since opening in November 2025.
The Board also approved design engineering work for pedestrian safety improvements near Lake Park High School's West Campus. The Illinois Department of Transportation Safe Routes to School Program awarded the Village $250,000 for these improvements, with construction expected to begin in summer 2027.
In economic development, the Board authorized a $300,000 incentive for The Carnivore US, a meat smoking facility with a deli and restaurant, to open at 225 E. Irving Park Road. The property has been vacant since 2022. The Carnivore US requested Tax Increment Financing assistance to complete fire suppression system updates, including watermain improvements, to bring the building into compliance with Village code. The $300,000 incentive represents approximately 24% of the developer's estimated $1.8 million costs to purchase and renovate the property. Tax Increment Financing is described as an economic development tool intended to foster development and redevelopment in areas where public incentives are necessary to supplement private investment, according to the Village of Roselle.
Official meeting minutes and additional information are available on the Village of Roselle's website.
