The Wheaton Police Department released its weekly arrests and crime report for the period of April 27 through May 3, according to a May 27 statement. The report details several arrests and incidents that occurred in Wheaton during this time frame.

Among those arrested was Dennis Perry, age 66, of Wheaton, who was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Perry was arrested at his residence on South Shirly Court on May 3 at approximately 10:12 p.m. He was released later that evening with a notice to appear.

Clyde F. Birman, age 58, also of Wheaton, faced charges including residential burglary following an arrest on West Geneva Road on May 2 at about 9:41 p.m., after which he was taken to DuPage County Sheriff's Office custody. Birman had previously been arrested on April 28 at North Main Street for warrant and theft charges.

Other arrests included David A. Swiderski, age 46 of Wheaton, who was charged with DUI, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and resisting or obstructing a police officer; Maria E. Camacho of Berwyn for DUI and operating an uninsured motor vehicle; Nives M. Pescatore of St. Charles for failure to report an accident involving personal injury as well as leaving the scene; and Szymon P. Bak of Geneva for DUI.

The department's crime report listed incidents such as identity theft involving unauthorized use of identifying information on Birch Drive; financial fraud schemes targeting residents via social media platforms; multiple thefts including bicycles from apartment complexes and electronics from sporting events; credit card fraud related to denied food delivery orders due to unauthorized cards; forgery using counterfeit bills at local businesses; and retail thefts reported at area stores such as TJ Maxx and other locations in Danada Square West.

The public is reminded by the department that complaints contain only charges and are not proof of guilt: “Constitutionally, a defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.” Residents with information about these or other crimes are encouraged to submit anonymous tips through the DuPage County Sheriff's Office website.
