Naperville announces availability of municipal election petitions for 2027 races
Petitions for candidacy in the 2027 Naperville municipal election will be available beginning July 28 at 8 a.m. in the Community Services Department at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St.
According to the City of Naperville, petitions may be circulated for signature starting July 28. The upcoming election will include the four-year position of Mayor and four four-year City Council seats. To qualify as a candidate, individuals must be registered voters in Naperville and have resided within the city’s corporate limits for at least one year. Petitions for nomination are to be filed with the Community Services Department during the filing period, which runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, October 19, 2026, through Monday, October 26, 2026, excluding weekends.
A Consolidated Primary Election is scheduled for February 23, 2027, if more than 16 candidates file for City Council or more than four for Mayor. The Consolidated Election will be held on April 6, 2027. The City advises prospective candidates to consult the Illinois State Board of Elections website for specific questions regarding candidacy requirements.
