The Wheaton Planning and Zoning Board announced on May 19 that it will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, June 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Wheaton City Hall, located at 303 West Wesley Street. The meeting will be accessible both in-person and via Zoom.

The hearing concerns a zoning application requesting several changes to properties at 1300 S. President Street and 902 E. Dawes Avenue in Wheaton. The applicants are seeking an amendment to a special use permit for a building devoted to religious worship, specifically to expand the existing parking lot from 89 to 148 spaces at the church property.

Additionally, the application requests subdivision of the property at 902 E. Dawes Avenue into two lots with specified dimensions, along with variations from Article 9.2.4 and Article 9.2.2a of the Wheaton Zoning Ordinance for one of those lots regarding width and lot size requirements.

The proposal also includes rezoning certain parcels from R-3 Residential District to I-2 Institutional District and consolidating them with the larger church property at 1300 S. President Street.

According to Nicole Aranas, Chair of the Wheaton Planning and Zoning Board, "At the public hearing, anyone wishing to make a public statement will be encouraged to do so." Written comments may also be submitted prior to or during the hearing.

A copy of the full application is available for review in person at the office of the Director of Planning and Economic Development during normal business hours.
