Political activist and radio talk show host Dan Proft recently criticized Illinois Democratic Rep. Sean Casten for praising Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum’s letter to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, which condemned Trump’s threat to impose tariffs on Mexican goods.
“Cheerleading a narco state controlled by purveyors of poison and merchants of death. This is how you get elected in suburban Chicago these days,” Proft wrote in a Nov. 28 social media post on X. “I am thankful to live in a country still dominated by people so committed to free minds and free expression that they fear not the ignorance of quislings, even the congressional varietal.”
“This is how you stand up to bullies,” Casten had written in his original post, which shared Sheinbaum’s letter.
In her letter, Sheinbaum warned that imposing tariffs would harm both the U.S. and Mexico, particularly industries like General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis, which have deep ties to Mexico.
The Mexican president emphasized that the issue of fentanyl was a public health problem within the U.S. and called for greater international cooperation, particularly in addressing the flow of chemical precursors from Asia into North America. She also criticized the illegal trafficking of firearms from the U.S. to Mexico, noting that 70% of illegal firearms in Mexico come from the U.S.
