Wheaton, IL - State Representative Amy Grant has successfully championed a policy change that will benefit drivers in Illinois. Prompted by concerns raised by constituents regarding Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) procedures, Rep. Grant took action by filing House Bill 1528. The bill proposed exempting first-time driver's license applicants from performing a road test if they had completed a certified driver's education course. The objective was to streamline the licensing process and alleviate the burden on Illinois residents.

Following a productive meeting last week, Rep. Grant received the news that Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias had implemented the initiative. The Secretary internally adopted the policy, eliminating the need for further legislative action from the General Assembly. Rep. Grant expressed her satisfaction, stating, "This is a win for Illinois residents, especially our young drivers. Our efforts to simplify the DMV process have been acknowledged, and I am pleased that the Secretary of State's office is taking proactive steps to implement this much-needed change."

The successful policy change serves as a testament to the power of direct advocacy and community-driven legislative proposals. Rep. Grant remains dedicated to addressing the needs and concerns of her constituents and will continue to work tirelessly for the betterment of Illinois.

State Representative Amy Grant, currently serving her third term in the General Assembly, represents the 47th district, which encompasses several communities in DuPage County. These include Naperville, Warrenville, Glen Ellyn, Wheaton, Lisle, Carol Stream, Bartlett, West Chicago, Winfield, and Wayne.
