DuPage County receives two national awards for crisis recovery and food insecurity efforts
DuPage County has received two 2026 Achievement Awards from the National Association of Counties, recognizing its Crisis Recovery Center in the health category and the county's comprehensive approach to addressing food insecurity in the human services category, according to a June 23 announcement from the county.
The awards highlight the county's efforts to support residents facing mental health crises and those experiencing food insecurity. The Crisis Recovery Center was recognized for its work in the health sector, while the county's food insecurity initiatives were honored in the human services category. According to DuPage County, "DuPage County received two 2026 Achievement Awards from the National Association of Counties (NACo), recognizing the Crisis Recovery Center in the health category and the County's comprehensive approach to addressing food insecurity in the human services category."
DuPage County schools serve a diverse student population, with White students making up 49.1%, Hispanic students 23.8%, Asian students 16%, Black students 6.3%, and other ethnicities 4.8% during the 2022-23 school year, according to the Illinois State Board of Education. Hispanic students comprised 25% and American Indian students comprised 0.1% of the student body in the same period, according to the Illinois State Board of Education.
In terms of academic performance, the percentage of DuPage County students who failed the English portion of the SAT exam fell from 42.1% in 2022 to 38.5% in 2023, while the percentage who failed the math portion rose from 58.1% to 58.9% between the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years, according to the Illinois State Board of Education. Nearly 6 in 10 DuPage County public high school students are not at grade level in English or math as of the 2023-24 school year, based on their SAT performance, according to the Illinois State Board of Education.
DuPage County schools also reported a teacher retention rate of 92.3% in 2023, based on a three-year average, according to the Illinois State Board of Education.
