Bloomingdale announces storm cleanup, community events, and summer programs for residents
Bloomingdale officials announced on June 26 a series of updates and upcoming events for residents, including storm cleanup efforts, community gatherings, and summer programs.
Public Works crews, with support from neighboring communities, continue to clear storm damage throughout the Village. Efforts are focused on removing downed trees, hanging limbs, and storm debris. A special pickup of storm-related branches will begin on Monday, June 29. Residents are instructed to place branches at the curb before 7:00 AM, with size restrictions of less than 4 inches in diameter and 6 feet in length. Only one pass will be made, and no scheduling is required. Larger trees or significant branches should be removed by contractors, while smaller debris should be disposed of through regular yard waste collection. For questions, residents can contact Public Works at 630-671-5800.
The Village joined Bloomingdale VFW Post 7539 and community members on June 20 for the annual Flag Dedication Ceremony at the Founders Gazebo. Mayor Franco Coladipietro offered remarks of gratitude, Larry Rogers welcomed attendees, Commander Cliff Hall recognized each branch of the United States Armed Forces as their flags were raised, and Brandt Leischner offered a prayer. According to the Village, "The Village extends its appreciation to VFW Post 7539 for hosting the event and to DuPage County Commissioner Sam Tornatore, whose assistance in securing grant funding helped make the military branch flag project possible. Special thanks also to Texas Roadhouse for providing food for attendees and veterans, and to Johnny G's Food Truck for participating in the celebration."
Several community programs are scheduled in the coming weeks. The free summer branch collection program for single-family detached residences begins July 20, with branches to be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. Road construction on Braintree Drive, Salem Court, Bourne Lane, and Fairfield Way may temporarily impact garbage collection. Residents are advised to place containers in the parkway area and may contact SBC at 312-522-1115 if collections are missed. An electronic recycling event for DuPage County residents will be held on Saturday, June 27, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Bloomingdale Township Highway Department. Accepted items include computers, laptops, printers, and other electronics, with a recycling fee for televisions and monitors.
The Bloomingdale Maker's Market will take place on Sunday, June 28, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the corner of Schick Road and 3rd Street. The market features local makers, artisans, and small businesses. Additional events include the Rotary Family Feud Game Night on September 19, the Goosechase Scavenger Hunt through July 7, and the Splash Bash Block Party on June 27. The Village also encourages residents to view the 2026 Hometown Heroes Banner display, participate in the Daily Herald Readers' Choice Awards, and consider purchasing commemorative bricks at local statue sites.
Construction on Fairfield Way is expected to continue through early September, with improvements to curbs, sidewalks, and roadways. The Village is a member of the O’Hare Noise Compatibility Commission, which works to reduce aircraft noise in surrounding communities. Residents may file aircraft noise complaints by phone or online, and additional information is available in the ONCC Airport Noise Management System Monthly Report. For more information on Village programs and updates, residents are encouraged to visit the Village of Bloomingdale website.
