At the Dec. 8  meeting of Glendale Heights village board, the board received the report on its Fiscal Year 2022 audit.

Christine Torres of Crowe, LLP, explained to the board that the audit process begins in April and it is sent for certification at the end of October. She said that auditors look at the overall control within the village and that one person should be preparing the information, while another is reviewing the information, and making sure that the information sent to auditors is accurate.

“And then finally, some other items to point out is if we had any sort of significant disagreements or problems or consultations outside of our auditing, or anything that we had issues with management, we would want to bring it to your attention," Torres said. "And we had no such of those items during this audit. Everything went very smoothly. The Finance Department did a great job with providing us information, as well as many of the other departments within the village as well. Public Works, Recreation, H.R., they all get involved in providing us information and everyone was very helpful.”

Torres explained the classification of "unmodified opinion," which means the audit found no issues with the accuracy of the information. Torres also pointed out how  the financial funds look sightly differently in the audit as they are grouped differently, like all the federal funds being tied together into one.

With some of the federal funds and grants, especially with all the money from the pandemic, there has to be what’s known as a single audit, or a federal request to look very closely at the financial statements for those funds. In the controls and balances, the auditor found the village to be completely correct with no issues. Torres also spoke to some of those monies, like ARPA funds, that the village will continue to see or will not report as revenue until 2023.
