Robert R. Duncan has been appointed to the Village Board of Trustees in Glen Ellyn. The decision was made during a special meeting on October 6, 2025, following the recent passing of Trustee Steve Szymanski. Duncan will serve the remainder of the term until May 2027, with the seat scheduled for election in April 2027 for a two-year term.

The Village Board received 11 applications from residents interested in filling the vacant trustee position. Board members reviewed and interviewed candidates before Village President Jim Burket recommended Duncan for appointment.

Duncan, a lifelong resident of Glen Ellyn, has participated in local organizations such as the Glen Ellyn Civic Betterment Party Nominating Committee and served on the Board of Directors for the Glen House Food Pantry. According to Village President Jim Burket, “Bob brings both professional expertise and a lifelong connection to Glen Ellyn. His experience and leadership will be an asset to the Board and to the entire community.”

Professionally, Duncan is founder and principal of Duncan Law Group, LLC, based in Chicago. He has received recognition from Illinois legal publications such as Super Lawyers and Leading Lawyers, and has held leadership roles in state and national legal organizations. He also serves as president of the University of Illinois College of Law Dean’s Advisory Board.

Duncan commented on his new role: “I am honored by this opportunity to serve the community I’ve called home nearly my entire life. Glen Ellyn is a special place to raise a family, and I look forward to working with Village President Burket and my fellow Trustees to ensure its continued success.”

The Village Board consists of six trustees elected to four-year terms along with the Village President. The board is responsible for approving budgets, setting policy for residents, and carrying out duties defined in the Village Code.
