House Republican Majority has issued the following press release:

SPRINGFIELD, IL – In the Halloween classic, “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” Linus waits in the pumpkin patch hoping for the Great Pumpkin to appear, only to be disappointed by the movie’s end. Like the Great Pumpkin, State Representative Maura Hirschauer’s campaign pledge in 2020 to oppose legislative pay raises never materialized either.

Instead, State Rep Hirschauer violated her campaign pledge by supporting pay raises every year she’s been in office (SB2800, HB4700), despite rampant inflation, a high unemployment rate, record-level government spending, and soaring property taxes crippling family budgets across Illinois’ 49th District.

“Representative Hirschauer’s increased her legislative pay multiple times as families saw their wages fall while struggling to manage daily household costs,” stated Kevin Wallace, Republican candidate for State Representative. “By violating her simple promise to voters by rejecting pay raises, Rep. Hirschauer can only be trusted to do what’s right for herself and not hard-working taxpayers.”

Rep. Hirschauer felt she deserved multiple pay raises for her work in Springfield, even with Illinois leading the nation with the highest unemployment rate and effective property tax rate. Other reports show Illinois ranking in the top 10 among the highest-taxed states, an unfortunate honor even California hasn't done.

Rep. Maura Hirschauer broke her promise to reject pay raises and failed to deliver on behalf of taxpayers,” said Wallace. “It’s time to hold politicians like Maura Hirschauer accountable for lying to get elected and to stop rewarding state legislators for a job not well done.”

With the election eight days away, don’t believe the story of the Great Pumpkin or Maura Hirschauer’s campaign lies to get elected.
