The department also stated it will not interfere with lawful activities conducted by federal agencies within Glen Ellyn. All officers have received training on the requirements of the Trust Act.
The statement clarified that while local police do not engage in immigration enforcement, they retain full authority to enforce state laws and local ordinances. This includes investigating crimes against people or property and maintaining public safety during demonstrations or events—actions described as central to GEPD’s mission and distinct from immigration enforcement.
Residents were reminded that when calling 911, GEPD officers respond alone, without ICE agents present. Officers do not inquire about individuals’ immigration status, nor does GEPD detain anyone solely based on their status or assist with ICE investigations.
