North Central College secured its 51st consecutive College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Cross Country Championship on Saturday at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Illinois. The Cardinals placed eight runners among the top ten, finishing with 20 points. Carthage followed with 65 points and Wheaton finished third with 79. Millikin, Illinois Wesleyan, Elmhurst, Augustana, Carroll, and North Park rounded out the standings.
Carthage senior Jacob Curulewski broke a long-standing pattern by becoming the first non–North Central runner to win the individual title since 2008. He completed the course in 23:57.2, marking a personal best and Carthage’s first individual champion since 2002. Curulewski led a Carthage team that had two runners in the top ten.
North Central’s team effort was highlighted by BJ Sorg’s second-place finish at 24:01.1. Other key contributors included Jacob Kluckhohn (third), Jack Galminas (fourth), Oscar Frontjes (fifth), Ari Elmayan (sixth), and Aidan Armstrong (seventh).
Jack Galminas was named CCIW First-Year Student-Athlete of the Meet after his fourth-place performance—the highest finish among freshmen.
BJ Sorg received the CCIW Elite 26 Award for having the highest cumulative grade-point average among All-CCIW First Team honorees.
The Cardinals’ coaching staff, led by Matt Sinnott, was recognized as CCIW Coaching Staff of the Year.
