Republican candidate for the 23rd Senate District Dennis Reboletti is pointing out that his opponent, Sen. Suzy Glowiak-Hilton (D-Oakbrook Terrace) was among three state senators who missed the vote on the sweeping criminal justice reform SAFE-T Act in 2021.
"It is very unfortunate that the person elected to represent our district and constituents decided that her own self interest is more important than ours,” Dennis Reboletti, a former assistant state’s attorney in Will County, said. “Sen. Suzy is a back-bench member who does what she is told in Springfield instead of listening to the views of her constituents at home in DuPage County.”
Reboletti says Glowiak-Hilton can't make tough decisions.
"We need someone who will have our back all the time and make the tough decisions that best represent our district," Reboletti said. "Suzy is clearly not this person because she would rather not make any decision at all instead of the tough and right decision for her district,"
Ending cash bail, and mandating body cameras for police officers are among the provisions of the legislation, patch.com reports.
Opponents say the legislation goes too far in allowing those charged with crimes to be released pending trial, Fox 32 reports. Gov. J.B. Pritzker said last week during a campaign stop that he is open to considering small changes to the bill, the Lake & McHenry County Scanner reported.
Reboletti is a former state representative challenging Glowiak-Hilton in the newly drawn 23rd District.
