Structure fire damages home on Cedarbrook Road in Naperville; one officer treated for smoke inhalation
A structure fire caused significant damage to a residence in the 200 block of Cedarbrook Road in Naperville on July 15. The Naperville Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call at 7:33 a.m. reporting smoke and a possible fire inside the home.
Emergency crews responded with a general alarm, dispatching three engines, two trucks, two medic units, one heavy rescue, and three battalion vehicles to the scene. According to the City of Naperville, initial arriving companies conducted a 360-degree survey, provided an on-scene report, and established command. Smoke was visible from the front of the home upon arrival, and the fire was found to be confined to the basement.
All occupants were confirmed to be out of the structure. Fire suppression teams extinguished the fire, ventilated the building, and searched for any fire extension or remaining safety concerns. After the fire was put out, crews continued to overhaul the affected area to ensure the hazard was contained. The Naperville Police Department assisted at the scene.
Damage to the residence and its contents was estimated at $70,000. The initial investigation determined the cause of the fire to be accidental. The home was declared uninhabitable by the Naperville Transportation, Engineering and Development Group. One Naperville Police Officer was transported from the scene for smoke inhalation and has since been released.
