The chronic truancy rate among students in DuPage County school districts was 7% in the 2024-25 school year, the Illinois State Board of Education reported. The rate was 0.1 percentage points lower than the previous school year.

Approximately 9,881 of the 142,148 students enrolled in DuPage County school districts met the state definition of chronically truant in the 2024-25 school year.

The dropout rate among school districts in the county was 1.2%, 0.1 percentage points lower than the year before.

Among school districts in the county, Community High School District 94 reported the highest chronic truancy rate in the 2024-25 school year, at 24.5%. Downers Grove Grade School District 58 reported the county’s lowest chronic truancy rate, at 0.5%.

The main offices of all school districts mentioned in the story are located in cities associated with DuPage County.

According to the Illinois State Board of Education, students are considered chronically truant if they miss 5% or more of school days per year without an acceptable excuse.

Funding for K–12 schools in Illinois increased by $307 million in fiscal year 2026, the smallest annual boost since 2020, as the Illinois State Board of Education’s budget rose from nearly $10.8 billion to about $11.2 billion.

Within that budget, the agency has paused about $50 million previously allocated through the Evidence-Based Funding formula for the Property Tax Relief Grant while reviewing its impact on local tax relief. Officials say the pause may affect the timing and amount of property tax relief available to taxpayers.
