Glen Ellyn remains under an Extreme Heat Advisory as of July 16, with high temperatures and heat index values expected to continue. An Air Quality Alert is also in effect due to wildfire smoke, making outdoor conditions potentially unhealthy for sensitive groups and, at times, the general public. Residents are encouraged to take extra precautions, especially older adults, young children, and those with heart or lung conditions. The Village advises checking on neighbors, friends, and family members who may need assistance during the heat.

Guidance from the Village includes drinking plenty of water, limiting strenuous outdoor activity between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., wearing lightweight clothing, using sunscreen, and taking breaks in air-conditioned spaces. Residents are reminded never to leave children or pets in parked vehicles. For air quality concerns, the Village recommends limiting prolonged outdoor activity if smoky conditions are present or if breathing difficulties occur. People with asthma, heart disease, or other respiratory conditions should reduce outdoor exertion and monitor symptoms. Keeping windows closed and using air conditioning can help reduce smoke indoors.

The Glen Ellyn Public Library serves as an official cooling center during regular hours. Other air-conditioned public spaces, such as recreation facilities and shopping centers, are also available for relief. Pet owners are advised to provide fresh water and shade, avoid walking pets on hot pavement during peak heat, and bring pets indoors whenever possible.

The Glen Ellyn Independence Day Foundation has rescheduled the Stars & Stripes Over Glen Ellyn celebration for Sunday, September 6 at Lake Ellyn. The event will feature a skydiver at 6:30 p.m. and a fireworks and drone show at approximately 7 p.m. The Plan Commission will meet on July 23 at 7 p.m. to discuss Downtown-specific and commercial regulations as part of the ongoing zoning code update. Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to attend or review the Zoning Diagnostic Report and provide feedback.

The Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company will conduct annual standpipe training at the Civic Center Parking Garage on August 3 and August 10 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. The top level of the garage and the west stairwell will be closed during training, but all other areas will remain open. Firefighters will be in full protective gear, and water will be used as part of the exercise. No live fire or smoke will be involved, and the area will be cleaned after training.

Downtown Glen Ellyn will host Sidewalk Sales and Bags, Beer & Bluegrass from July 17 to 19. The Summer Sidewalk Sale will feature special deals and sidewalk displays from local businesses. On July 17, Bags, Beer & Bluegrass will offer live bluegrass music, a bags tournament, and food and beverages from downtown restaurants. Additional events include the Bike Glen Ellyn Prairie Path Ride, Park District activities, and the Tour of Lake Ellyn Family Fun Ride. Residents are encouraged to stay informed, hydrated, and take precautions during the ongoing heat and air quality alerts.
