The Elmhurst University softball team closed out its spring break road trip to Florida by splitting its final two games. The Bluejays defeated St. Olaf College 6-1 before falling 12-3 to Williams College.
Elmhurst returns home with a 6-9 overall record.
ELMHURST 6, ST. OLAF 1 - Elmhurst picked up a 6-1 victory over St. Olaf College to start the day. The Bluejays opened the scoring in the first when Paige Pehlke drew a bases loaded walk to force in a run. Kate Sommer added a RBI double in the second to put the Bluejays up 2-0.
St. Olaf cut the lead in half with a run in the third, but Elmhurst countered with a run in the fourth on a RBI double from Sommer. The Bluejays put the game away in the sixth with three runs. Sommer started the scoring with a RBI single. Jamie Haas added a run-scoring single and Pehlke drew her second bases loaded walk of the contest to drive in the Bluejays' final run.
Sommer finished 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs. Jamie Haas added two hits and two runs for the Bluejays.
Sydni Gizynski earned the win from the circle, working four innings and allowing three hits and one run. She walked four and struck out three. Chiara O'Leary earned the save in relief, pitching the final three innings and allowing just two hits and two walks while fanning two.
WILLIAMS 12, ELMHURST 3 - Elmhurst closed out its trip with a 12-3 loss to Williams. Williams scored six runs in the first and six in the second to open up a commanding lead.
Hannah Dunk drove in a run for Elmhurst with a RBI double in the second. The Bluejays added a run on a wild pitch and scored their final run of the game in the third on a Maddie Trost RBI double.
Jena Hicks made the start and took the loss, surrendering four hits and four runs.
