Comedian Sonya D, known as much for her profanity-laced outbursts as any other part of her highly popular act, is planning a series of shows for Naperville’s Center Stage Theater.

Her first show, 'FunnyLady Sonya D’s Birthday Comedy Bash,' will be Jan. 15. Beer and wine are available for purchase at the show, which may be the first of its kind at the family-centric venue.

Tickets for the show range from a single ticket for $25 to a package for $125. Doors open at 8 p.m. with the show to start at 9 p.m.

The theater is located at 1665 Quincy Ave., Suite 131.

Sonya D will be joined by a group of colleagues on Feb. 12 with the 'These Queens Wear Crowns Tour,' which will be playing in Las Vegas until then. The shows are part of Sonya D’s Stand Up & Laugh Tour featuring other comediennes.

“There’s no regular ongoing comedy in DuPage County,” Sonya D told NCTV17. “If you Google ‘Chicago comedy,’ you’ll find there’s something to do every night in Chicago. We don’t have that out here. So that’s my goal is to build more comedy avenues in DuPage county.”

Sonya D has wanted to bring comedy to the Naperville venue for some time, but has not gained much traction booking multiple shows in the historically conservative DuPage County west of the Windy City.

“I love Chicago, don’t get me wrong," she said. "I’m from Chicago, born and raised. But my life is DuPage County. So my thing is when you give back to a community, you always want to give back to a community where you live.”

Center Stage Theater is Naperville’s 162-seat community performing arts theater. It is the home of children’s programming in Kidz Kabaret and also hosts the Center Stage Players.

The theater is subsidized in part by taxpayer funds provided by the Illinois Arts Council and DuPage Foundation. It bills itself as a multi-functional entertainment space.

“Center Stage Theater is also committed to serving as an affordable venue for the entire community,” the theater’s website reads. "We routinely host community theater performances, film festivals, award ceremonies, fundraising events, business receptions, dance recitals, music concerts, birthday parties, karaoke nights … and the list goes on.

We'll find out if they're ready for Sonya D this weekend.
