The Village of Westmont has issued its annual recommendations for Halloween trick-or-treating, aiming to help ensure safety for residents participating in the festivities. The suggested hours for trick-or-treating this year are from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 31.
Residents who plan to distribute candy are encouraged to turn on their front lights so families can easily identify participating homes. For added clarity and safety, the village suggests setting up a table outside from which to hand out treats. Homes not participating should keep outdoor lights off.
To further assist, the Village of Westmont has made printable signs available that residents can post on their doors, indicating whether they are handing out treats or not.
The guidelines also emphasize several safety measures: children should be closely supervised while trick-or-treating, electronic devices should be put away, and everyone should remain alert for traffic and obey all traffic signals. It is advised that children cross streets at designated crossings rather than between parked cars or mid-block. All distributed treats should be pre-packaged.
"The Village of Westmont wishes everyone a fun and SAFE Halloween."
