OAK BROOK PARK DISTRICT: Rain Didn’t Dampen Oak Brook’s First July Dri Tri

Gulf exercise

Oak Brook Park District issued the following announcement on July 24.

38 athletes took to the fields in Oak Brook Park District’s Central Park for the agency’s first July Dri Tri on Saturday, July 21. The event drew registrants of all ages from Lisle to Dundee, including 74-year old Oak Brook resident Apparao Devata.

Competing in teams of two, participants completed a half marathon distance in tandem. Teams alternated 500 meters on a Concept 2 rower until they reached 5000 meters (3.1 miles), alternated half mile distances on an Air Assault bike until they completed 7 miles, and ran 1.5 miles together for a total distance of 3 miles through the park.

According to Oak Brook Park District fitness supervisor, Mike Delgado, the park district has been testing and perfecting fitness challenges like this for more than a year. “We’ve worked with members and participants and have developed a really strong series that we are excited to see grow,” says Delgado.

The fitness series includes the July Dri Tri; the Turkey Dri Tri, which will take place the day after Thanksgiving; and Tackle the Tri, which will be held on Sunday, February 3, 2019 before the “big game.” According to Delgado, the July Dri Tri is unique in the series, as it is the only event that is a partner event, the only outdoor event, and the only event in the series that does not feature age brackets.

“We wanted to give people a fun opportunity to challenge themselves and maintain their optimal fitness levels through the winter,” says Delgado.

Registration is now open for the Turkey Dri Tri, which includes a 2K row on a Concept 2 rower, 4K cycle on an Air Assault Bike, and a 2K Run/Walk on a Precor Treadmill. The event is sponsored by AMITA Health and Direct Fitness Solutions and the fee is $25 per person. For more information, please visit www.obparks.org.
