Village of Villa Park Historical Preservation Commission met April 6.

Here is the minutes as provided by the Commission:

1. CALL MEETING TO ORDER

The March 2, 2017 VPHPC Meeting was called to order by Carol Marcus, VPHPC Chair, at

7:30 pm.

2. ROLL CALL

PRESENT: Carol Marcus - Chair/Secretary, Roxanne Beausoleil

ABSENT: Adam Klintworth, Jose Castillo

VACANCY: one GUESTS: none

3. APPROVE MINUTES FROM PREVIOUS MEETING

The informal minutes from the March 2, 2017 meeting had been approved by email. VPHPC did

not have a quorum. Informal minutes will be taken.

4. Public Participation on non-agenda items (limit 5 minutes). None.

5. Public Participation on agenda items (limit 5 minutes). None.

6. OLD BUSINESS – Discussions:

Village Owned Historic Properties – Stewardship Review

 Former CAE Station c.1910 – Chamber of Commerce

 Former CAE Station c.1929 – Historical Museum

 Former Chicago & Great Western Railroad Station (c. 1926) Improvements

Village Hall c.1929.

Old Post-Office c 1935 Status. no discussion.

Kenilworth TIF Façade Program Design Review. No Discussion.

VPHPC 2017 Preservation Awards. VPHPC is still waiting for a few homeowners to

complete research and send in applications. VPHPC volunteered to do the research. One

homeowner had submitted their completed application and it is a home well-preserved.

PROJECTS / TASKS

o On Hold: VPHPC Contribution towards Museum Reference Library Bookcase

7. NEW BUSINESS DISCUSSIONS

A. Business Sold – gas tank remediation. M & M Repair on Central Blvd. was sold. New owner

removed the old gas tanks following EPA and Village inspections, etc.

B. Historical Museum opens April 8th, new hours tu-fri 11:00 – 3:00pm. The museum board changed

the week day hours to make it more convenient for visitors per requests.

C. Attendance at LI Suburban Alliance Meeting in Downers Grove. Carol attended the meeting held

at Avery Cooney private elementary school. It was a great meeting as the mayor and Downers Grove

Preservation Commission presented their house plaque to the owners of the Downer House. Many

speakers talked about preservation in Downers. A new imitative led by a citizens group is the

American Foursquare Survey. Over 100 of these homes exist.

D. National Trust Preservation Conference w/b held in Chicago November 2017 – Palmer House.

Since it is so close, VPHPC is encouraged to attend.

E. IAHPC annual meeting – Princeton, IL. – May. VPHPC will not attend this meeting.

F. Commissioner Reports / Comments.

6. BILL PAYMENT / BUDGET

Carol paid VPHPC Membership dues to National Trust for Historic Preservation, IAHPC, and

Landmarks Illinois. She will put in a reimbursement for this expense.

7. ADJOURNMENT

Meeting was adjourned at 8:35 PM.

The next regular VPHPC meeting will be held at the Villa Park Historical Museum,

220 S. Villa Avenue, and Villa Park at 7:30 PM on Thursday, May 4, 2017.
