Aurora man denied pre-trial release over attempted murder charges
DuPage County State’s Attorney Bob Berlin and Naperville Chief of Police Jason Arres announced that Judge Joshua Dieden granted the State’s Motion to deny pre-trial release for an Aurora man accused of shooting a woman in a car late last month. Jarvell Rainey, 21, of the 800 block of Oliver Avenue, appeared in First Appearance Court charged with one count of Attempt First-Degree Murder (Class X Felony), one count of Aggravated Battery – Discharge of a Firearm (Class X Felony), and one count of Armed Robbery with a Firearm (Class X Felony).

Two women detained pre-trial for alleged thefts totaling nearly $6K in Oak Brook
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Oak Brook Chief of Police Brian Strockis announced today that the Court granted the State’s motion to detain pre-trial two women accused of stealing nearly $6,000 worth of merchandise from two Oak Brook stores. Martasia Barney, 26, of Chicago, and Psy’che Hayes, 35, of Dubuque, Iowa, appeared in First Appearance Court this morning each charged with multiple felonies including Burglary and Retail Theft.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Elmhurst Chief of Police Michael McLean announced today that Judge Jeffrey MacKay granted the State’s motion to deny pre-trial release for a Chicago man accused of robbing a man at gunpoint outside an Elmhurst apartment complex. Bennie Gates, 19, of the 6100 block of S. Loomis, appeared in First Appearance Court this morning charged with one count of Armed Robbery with a Firearm, a Class X Felony.

Bloomingdale man sentenced for murder of handicapped nephew
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin announced today that a Bloomingdale man accused of killing his nephew in 2020 has been sentenced to fifty years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Former police officer charged with theft and misconduct
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Glendale Heights Chief of Police George Pappas announced today that a former Glendale Heights police officer has been charged with official misconduct for allegedly misusing a village-issued credit card. On June 13, 2024, a DuPage County Grand Jury indicted Mark Garcia, 37, on three counts of Official Misconduct (Class 3 Felony) and two counts of Theft (Class 4 Felony). Judge Robert Rohm issued an arrest warrant for Garcia on the same day. He turned himself in to authorities last night and was released from custody.

Naperville woman charged with using children in retail theft
A Naperville woman has been charged with enlisting her two juvenile daughters to steal more than $4,600 worth of merchandise from the Yorktown JC Penney department store. DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Lombard Chief of Police Tom Wirsing announced the charges today.
