Glen Ellyn residents will see updated rates for the weekly residential solid waste program beginning with the August 1 Village Services bill. The new rates are part of a five-year contract with Groot Industries approved by the Village Board in 2024. The rates include a base fee and additional charges for optional program services.

Despite storms and wet conditions at Lake Ellyn that prevented this year's annual fireworks display, the community gathered for the Fourth of July Parade through Downtown Glen Ellyn. According to the Village of Glen Ellyn, "Thousands of residents lined the streets to enjoy festive floats, community organizations, local businesses, and patriotic spirit, making it another memorable Independence Day celebration."

The Village said the date for the rescheduled fireworks display is still to be determined. Coordination with the fireworks vendor, the Park District, public safety resources, and other scheduling considerations are ongoing. The Village said, "We appreciate everyone's patience as those details are finalized."

Residents affected by recent storms can place fallen tree limbs and brush out during the next two regularly scheduled brush collections. The Village said that because storm debris was limited, a special collection is not planned.

Glen Ellyn also welcomed Mayor Gwenael Lamarque of Le Bouscat, France, and his daughter, Margaux, for a multi-day visit over the Independence Day holiday weekend. Le Bouscat has been Glen Ellyn's sister city since 2014. The visit included meetings with Village Board members and staff, tours of local facilities, and attendance at the Fourth of July Parade. The Village said, "The visit included opportunities to exchange ideas on local government, community engagement, and the shared values that connect the two municipalities. As a symbol of the enduring sister-city partnership, the Village presented the delegation with a number of commemorative gifts."

Last week, Glen Ellyn dedicated the America 250: Glen Ellyn Heritage mural at the Glen Ellyn History Center. The mural, created by local artist Jason Watts, commemorates America's 250th anniversary and highlights the people, places, and moments that have shaped the community. The Village said, "The design was selected through a public engagement process, making it a true reflection of Glen Ellyn's story. Thank you to everyone who helped make this project possible."

A series of Village Board and commission meetings, as well as special events, are scheduled throughout July. Residents are encouraged to visit the Village website for the most current information on meetings and events.
