The Lombard Village Board approved several changes to electrical and plumbing codes. The new codes, which take effect on Nov. 1, will be put in place to ensure the village's development regulations reflect the latest standards in construction.

McGuire resolution supports Foster's Payer State Transparency Act

State Sen. Pat McGuire (D-Dist. 43) has introduced a resolution that calls on the U.S. Congress to pass U.S. Rep. Bill Foster's (D-Dist. 11) Payer State Transparency Act. Foster introduced the measure in September 2014 to study how federal tax revenue provided by "payer" states is divided up among " taker" states.

Wheaton City Council passes ordinance to regulate garage sales

The Wheaton City Council recently enacted an ordinance that places limits on garage sales, defined as sales, bartering, trading or giveaways conducted outdoors or partially outdoors. The ordinance prohibits residents from operating a garage sale at a single address before 8 a.m. or after 5 p.m., on more than two consecutive days, more than two times in a calendar year or on a public right-of-way.

Lisle releases September mosquito-activity report

Lisle Township recently posted a mosquito status report for September. The report indicated much of the Chicago area was impacted by three to four major floodwater mosquito-annoyance periods. "The above-normal temperature pattern, including three days in the 90s and 15 days at 80 degrees or above, created ideal conditions for the mosquitoes to be a significant factor," the report said.

New O'Hare runway completed as part of Modernization Program

O'Hare International Airport 's new southernmost runway, 10R-28L, recently was completed through the O’Hare Modernization Program (OMP). The new runway will not be operational between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. as part of steps being taken to reduce noise for residents who live near the airport.

Active-shooter drill to train first-responders held at Wheaton College

Wheaton police and fire departments conducted an active-shooter simulation exercise on the campus of Wheaton College on Monday. “This exercise was imperative for Wheaton’s first-responders so we could get hands-on practice in how we would respond to a crisis like an active-shooter situation,” Wheaton Fire Chief Bill Schultz said.
