The Lombard Village Board approved several changes to electrical and plumbing codes.

The new codes, which take effect on Nov. 1, will be put in place to ensure the village's development regulations reflect the latest standards in construction.

The amendments supplement changes made to the building code earlier this year and include modifications based on observed practices and provisions for some increased flexibility in design. The plumbing code was also updated to reflect changes made to the State Plumbing Code and to provide for standardization and uniformity with accepted practices.

Additionally, the 2011 National Electrical Code (NEC) was also adopted to standardize the electrical code with other surrounding municipalities.

“The code changes help ensure that the village’s regulations meet the needs of the development, commercial and residential communities”, Community Development Director William Heniff said. “The amendments help ensure that the local codes follow accepted construction practices successfully implemented elsewhere in the Chicago area, and will keep the village economically competitive as the changes pertain to the overall cost of construction."
