Woodridge announces community events, rescheduled fireworks, and public safety updates
Woodridge residents are invited to participate in a series of community events and public safety initiatives throughout July and August, as announced on July 10. The Village of Woodridge highlighted several upcoming activities, including National Night Out, local concerts, and a school supply drive, while also providing updates on recent weather-related cancellations and public safety opportunities.
The Woodridge Police Department will host its Annual National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Duffy’s Pavilion, next to the Woodridge ARC at 8201 Janes Avenue. The event will feature a drone demonstration, bounce house, face painting, children’s activities, and an opportunity to take photos inside a police car. According to the Village of Woodridge, "This community-focused evening is a wonderful opportunity to connect with neighbors, meet local officers, and celebrate Woodridge. Bring your family and friends and enjoy fun moments, including a drone demonstration, a bounce house, face painting, children's activities, and a chance to snap a photo inside a police car. Don’t miss out on this memorable night in the community!"
The Village reported that severe weather on July 4 led to the cancellation of the WSEC Fourth of July Picnic and the Woodridge–Downers Grove Fireworks. Efforts are underway to reschedule the fireworks display in coordination with the Village of Downers Grove and the fireworks vendor. The Village said, "We are currently working with our fireworks vendor and the Village of Downers Grove to identify a new date for the fireworks display that works for all parties involved. We know our community is eager for an update, and we appreciate your patience as we coordinate the logistics. As soon as a new date is confirmed, we will share it through E-News, on our website, and across our social media channels. Unfortunately, the WSEC Fourth of July Picnic cannot be rescheduled due to logistical constraints. However, we encourage residents to enjoy a picnic in one of Woodridge's beautiful parks throughout the summer."
Residents are encouraged to participate in the Woodridge School Supply Drive, which runs through August 6. Donations can be made at Village Hall, Old National Bank, or St. Scholastica. The Village noted, "Did you know there are almost 1,100 students in Woodridge School District 68 whose families will struggle to purchase school supplies? You can help! Donate school supplies from July 1 through August 6 at Village Hall (5 Plaza Dr.), Old National Bank (3540 Hobson Rd.), or St. Scholastica (7800 Janes Ave.)."
The Village is also accepting applications for entry-level police officers and a school crossing guard position. Training and equipment are provided for the crossing guard role, which is assigned to Woodridge Drive and Zurich Court at John L Sipley Elementary School. The salary is $23.00 per shift, or $46 per day for two shifts.
Other upcoming events include the Woodridge Park District Summer Concert Series, Movies Under the Moon, and the Rotary Back-to-School Duck Dash on August 15. The DuPage Health Coalition will offer free hands-only CPR and emergency response training at Woodridge United Methodist Church on July 16. Residents can also meet with Felicia Acosta, a licensed social worker with the Woodridge Police Department, at the Woodridge Public Library on July 20 and August 17 for confidential assistance with local resources and support programs.
The Village reminds residents to review e-bike and e-scooter safety rules, which include age limits and helmet requirements. Last year, the Village approved new regulations for these vehicles, including a minimum age of 18 for e-scooters, 16 for e-bikes, and a maximum motor size of 750 watts. More information is available on the Village of Woodridge website.
