Two prominent officials have withdrawn their endorsements of DuPage County sheriff candidate Eddie Moore after reports surfaced that he allegedly ran over a busboy following a Valentine’s Day dinner at an Oak Brook steakhouse.
Bob Berlin, the DuPage County State’s Attorney, confirmed he has rescinded his support for Moore after being contacted about the matter.
“I informed Eddie Moore that I have rescinded my endorsement for Sheriff,” Berlin told the DuPage Policy Journal.
Prior to Berlin rescinding his endorsement, DuPage County Board member Cindy Cronin Cahill also withdrew her endorsement of Moore.
“Effective immediately I withdraw my endorsement of Eddie Moore for Sheriff. Please remove my name, image, and likeness from all social media including Facebook and Instagram. Do not use my name in connection with Eddie Moore for Sheriff. Please make sure the staff and campaign manager remove me from social media, emails, texts, calls, mail, etc,” Cahill wrote in an email obtained by the DuPage Policy Journal.
According to a law-enforcement source familiar with the matter, the February 14 incident allegedly occurred in a parking lot across the street from Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse and was captured on surveillance video from a nearby business.
The source said after Moore and his wife left the restaurant, they walked to the overflow lot and got into their car, with Moore behind the wheel when the pedestrian was allegedly struck.

The pedestrian, described as a busboy who works at the restaurant, was reportedly able to stand after the collision but had visible tire marks on his clothing, according to the account.
Witnesses checked on the man after the incident, the source said.
The source alleged that Moore and his wife attempted to exchange contact information with the pedestrian, who primarily speaks Spanish.
Moore’s wife, Brandi Moore, reportedly wrote down a phone number for the man to contact them but may have written an incorrect area code. Moore and his wife then left the scene without calling police, according to the source.
Brandi allegedly took over as the driver of the vehicle as the couple exited the parking lot.

The alleged victim later attempted to contact the number he was given but was unsuccessful. On Feb. 17, the man reportedly went to the Oak Brook Police Department with a translator to file a report about the incident.
According to the source, investigators collected statements from witnesses and obtained surveillance footage from a nearby bank parking lot that captured the alleged collision. Authorities also reviewed license-plate recognition cameras in the area and obtained the restaurant tab from that evening as part of their investigation.
The source said investigators attempted to contact Moore regarding the incident, but that he had retained legal counsel.
In another account relayed by the source, Moore allegedly denied striking anyone despite clear video evidence obtained by investigators.
As of publication, no official police report has been publicly released confirming the details of the investigation.
Moore, a longtime law-enforcement officer and current Undersheriff seeking the county’s top law-enforcement post, has not publicly commented on the allegations.
The claims come less than two weeks before the Republican primary election for DuPage County sheriff.
Moore’s opponent in the Republican primary, Sean Noonan, sharply criticized the alleged incident.
“His conduct is reckless and unacceptable,” Noonan told the DuPage Policy Journal. “If he struck a pedestrian. He has an obligation to notify the police and he did not do that.”
The incident adds to a growing list of questions about Moore’s alleged off-duty behavior.
The DuPage Policy Journal previously reported that Moore was identified by deputies as the “primary aggressor” in a New Year’s Eve 2021 bar fight at the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, according to police reports obtained through a FOIA request.
Responding deputies said Moore showed signs of intoxication, including bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, during the late-night altercation in which a security guard broke his finger while attempting to restrain Moore.
Police reports state Moore attempted to pursue another individual during the dispute, prompting security staff to intervene. The guard reportedly suffered the injury while pulling Moore away from the confrontation.
Deputies also noted that Moore initially did not disclose that he was serving as Undersheriff of the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office at the time.

Nice headline, “he ran over a busboy “. Let’s call it what it really is, it is an accident. Mr. Noonan stated his conduct was reckless and unacceptable. So, based on that, everybody that drives a vehicle in Illinois that is involved in an accident that doesn’t report it is reckless and is unacceptable behavior?
It was an accident but leaving an incorrect area code on the phone number exchange makes me believe he was intending on hiding who he was. By state statute there needs to be an exchange of driving information (for Moore) which he didn’t do and he knows it. This is another character flaw for Moore and Noonan is correct in his description of the actions by Moore.
John Doe…yes it reckless and unacceptable behavior. He hit a pedestrian and he is obligated by law to file a police report. He is a law enforcement officer and should know better. And yes, every driver in Illinois who is involved in an accident, especially one involving a pedestrian, and does not report it is displaying reckless and unacceptable behavior! And let’s not forget about the phony phone number given to the victim. The incident in Lake Geneva and in Oak Brook may suggest Moore has an alcohol problem.
Transparency is key to integrity! Undersheriff should release his personal file proving he was reprimanded for the 2021 incident and admit to this unfortunate incident on Valentine’s Day. Undersheriff Moore is a 30 year trained first responder and he failed to act on his oath to the pedestrian! He should at least retire from active duty and if he feels he can still overcome the primary voting process at least do it as a citizen! How will he lead his fellow deputies if they make a mistake like he did? Leaders lead! Retire Undersheriff!
Moore stopped and contacted the stray walker.
No English? But he can read “Gibson’s” and take US currency? Lucky he walked into Moore and not ICE.
Noonan is playing dirty politics. He was a small town patrol shift supervisor. He isn’t experienced or capable of leading a large agency with officers that outrank him.
Where is your article about Moore being cleared of wringdoing. Surpringky it doesnxt exist
