Millikin University freshman Mateo Casillas has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Wrestling Student-Athlete of the Week. The announcement was made Tuesday by the conference.

Casillas, who is from Mahomet, Illinois, earned this recognition after winning the 197-pound division at the Millikin Open held in Decatur. He finished the tournament with a 4-0 record and contributed 23.5 points to his team, known as the Big Blue.

His performance included a 10-7 decision over Kevin Shaw of Huntingdon in his opening match. In the quarterfinals, he achieved a technical fall with a score of 17-1 against Trey Dunning from Illinois Wesleyan. Casillas then advanced to the final after a sudden victory (6-4) against Hadyn Ball of Wabash and secured the championship title with a narrow 7-6 win over Jackson Brinker of Cornell.

The CCIW also recognized Ethan Spacht from North Central as Student-Athlete of the Week for men’s wrestling on November 4.
