Glen Ellyn has announced its recommended trick-or-treat hours for Halloween, setting the window from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 31. The early timeframe is intended to allow families with younger children to participate in daylight hours for added safety.
Residents who wish to welcome trick-or-treaters are encouraged by the Village to keep their porch lights on and turn them off once they are no longer participating or have run out of candy.
Parents and guardians are reminded of key safety practices: "Parents and guardians are reminded to accompany young children, use sidewalks and crosswalks, and carry flashlights or glow sticks after dusk to increase visibility." Motorists are also urged to exercise caution: "Motorists are asked to slow down and stay extra alert during the afternoon and early evening hours, as excited children may cross streets unexpectedly."
The Village states that by following these guidelines, "Glen Ellyn families can help ensure a fun, festive, and worry-free Halloween for everyone."
In addition to trick-or-treating, Glen Ellyn neighborhoods have been recognized for creative Halloween decorations. Residents can tour decorated homes throughout the area. Several addresses received special recognition in categories such as Most Magical & Whimsical (572 Hill, 85 Park, 798 Lenox), Spookiest Spectacle (562 Forest, 586 Lowden, 3S261 Mulberry Ln), Best DIY Magic (336 Prospect, 254 Exmoor, 765 Euclid), and Beautifully Bewitched (306 Forest, 230 Crest, 285 Main).
