State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro (R-Hanover Park) has expressed her disapproval following the approval of a $55.2 billion state budget by Illinois Democrats. The budget is the largest in the state's history, marking an increase of nearly $2 billion from the previous year and introducing new taxes.
“This budget grows government, hikes taxes, and leaves working families behind,” Sanalitro stated. She criticized the spending plan for its significant increase without offering relief to seniors, small businesses, or parents struggling financially.
Sanalitro further criticized the budget for prioritizing what she termed as "pork projects," pay raises for politicians, and funding programs that exclude veterans and vulnerable communities. She argued that it ignored practical solutions such as property tax relief.
In response to these issues, Rep. Sanalitro introduced legislation aimed at eliminating taxes on tips and overtime pay—proposals she described as common-sense measures to help Illinois residents retain more of their earnings. “Unfortunately, those bills never even received a hearing. Meanwhile, this bloated budget sailed through with no accountability,” she remarked.
“We had a plan to cut costs, grow our economy, and avoid raising taxes. But once again, House Republicans were shut out,” Sanalitro added. She described the situation as "reckless" and "unsustainable," reflecting why she believes Illinois is facing challenges.
