The Illinois Tollway announced on June 12 that overnight ramp closures and detours are scheduled at the Golf Road Interchange on the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) to complete work at the toll plazas.

According to the agency, lane closures will begin on Friday, June 12, starting at 9 p.m. for ramps connecting eastbound Golf Road to northbound I-294 and southbound I-294 to Golf Road. Full closures of these ramps are set to start at 10 p.m., with no posted detours. The ramps are expected to reopen by 5 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, and all lanes should be open by 6 a.m.

The closures are necessary for pavement marking and overhead signage work through the plaza. Electronic message signs and construction signage will alert drivers in advance of the closures. The Illinois Tollway stated that all work is weather dependent, and up-to-date information will be available in its Daily Construction Alert online.

Construction is being coordinated with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the City of Des Plaines, as well as local fire and police departments. The improvements are part of Move Illinois: The Illinois Tollway Driving the Future—a 16-year, $15 billion capital program—and Bridging the Future, a seven-year $2 billion plan approved in December 2024 by the Board of Directors.

The agency reminded motorists that construction zone speed limits remain in effect around the clock in all construction zones and urged drivers to watch for changing traffic patterns and use caution when workers are present. Motorists were also reminded about compliance with Illinois' “Move Over Law,” which requires changing lanes or slowing down when passing vehicles stopped with hazard lights activated.
