State Senator Seth Lewis | Illinois General Assembly
State Senator Seth Lewis is actively opposing House Bill 2827, titled the Homeschool Act, which proposes new requirements for homeschool families and private schools. He states, "The legislation seeks to put a series of new mandates in place for homeschool families and private schools." Lewis argues that the bill encroaches on parental rights regarding educational choices for their children and imposes burdens on schools and educational offices.
Lewis has engaged with homeschool families in his district to discuss the legislation. "I have been meeting regularly with homeschool families across the 24th District—both in the district office and in Springfield," he notes. The bill progressed through the House Education Policy Committee despite significant opposition, with tens of thousands of witness slips filed against it.
In another initiative, Lewis is co-hosting a Youth Job Fair on April 24, alongside State Representatives Amy Grant and Jennifer Sanalitro. Scheduled at the Carol Stream Park District, the fair targets high school students seeking summer employment. As stated, "Students can get some valuable work experience that will help build confidence and look great on college applications, resumes, and future job applications."
Elsewhere, the 24th District will benefit from grants aimed at enhancing fire protection services. Six local fire protection districts have received up to $26,000 each from the Office of the State Fire Marshal. Lewis expressed satisfaction with the award of Small Equipment Grants for necessary tools and equipment.
Senator Lewis has also announced a move of his legislative office later this month within the same complex in Carol Stream. Additionally, he has secured shared office space with State Representative Amy Grant in Wheaton.
