Elmhurst University has appointed Mike Heffernan as the head coach of its football team, marking him as the 22nd person to hold this position in the history of the program. Dr. Glen Brittich, Director of Athletics at Elmhurst, expressed enthusiasm about Heffernan's return to his alma mater.

"It is with great excitement we welcome Coach Heffernan back to Elmhurst as our new head football coach," said Brittich. "When this search was started, we focused on looking for an individual who wanted to be ingrained in the fabric of Elmhurst University and support the holistic experience of our student-athletes."

Heffernan graduated from Elmhurst in 2007 with a degree in kinesiology and had been leading The College of St. Scholastica's football program for six seasons prior to this appointment. His previous tenure included significant achievements such as transitioning St. Scholastica into the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) and mentoring numerous all-conference players.

Heffernan expressed gratitude for returning to Elmhurst: "I am extremely excited to come home and rejoin the Bluejay family! I want to say thank you to Dr. Brittich and the hiring committee for their diligence and hard work during this hiring process."

Before joining St. Scholastica, Heffernan held coaching positions at various institutions, including Saint Anselm College and Northern State University, contributing significantly to their respective programs' successes.

Heffernan begins his role immediately, bringing with him extensive experience and a personal connection to Elmhurst University.
