State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro has introduced a resolution urging Illinois public colleges and universities to protect night classes. Known as HR90, the measure seeks to prioritize evening education opportunities for working adults and students with family obligations.

Sanalitro emphasized the significance of these programs, stating, “Many Illinoisans are juggling work, family, and other responsibilities during the day, leaving night classes as their only option to pursue higher education and career advancement.” She believes that these programs are essential for enabling all students to achieve their goals regardless of their schedules.

The resolution underscores the importance of maintaining accessibility for nontraditional and returning students who rely on night classes to earn degrees, acquire new skills, and advance in their careers. Sanalitro added, “We must ensure that higher education remains available to everyone, including those who cannot attend classes during regular hours. Preserving night programs supports our students, strengthens our workforce, and opens doors to new opportunities.”

Currently under consideration in the 104th General Assembly, this resolution reflects Sanalitro's commitment to educational accessibility.
