On January 31, 2025, Rep. Casten expressed his condolences to victims and their families affected by a recent tragedy. He highlighted the potential impact on aviators nationwide and mentioned working on bipartisan legislation to support pilots and air traffic controllers in need of assistance. "My thoughts are with the victims and their families in this devastating tragedy. We also must recognize the heavy toll this will take on aviators nationwide."

Later that day, he criticized the Trump Administration's decision to freeze funding, which he believes would have severe repercussions for Illinois. He organized a roundtable discussion with local leaders and stakeholders to address how such a freeze could affect access to cleaner energy in the state. "The Trump Administration’s funding freeze would have disastrous consequences for Illinois."

On February 1, 2025, Rep. Casten reiterated concerns about the potential pause on federal funding announced by the Trump Administration earlier that week. He noted that his office had received numerous communications from community members worried about the detrimental effects of such actions."Since the Trump Administration announced a potential pause on federal funding on Monday, my office has heard from dozens of people in our community who know how devastating the consequences would be."
