Illinois State Rep. Jennifer Sanalitro (R-Bloomingdale) said she supports "parents and guardians making decisions for their own minor children" including medical procedures of all kinds.
"As a mother of two children, of course I support parents and guardians making decisions for their own minor children," Sanalitro told DuPage Policy Journal. "This includes medical procedures of all kinds."
Parents Matter Coalition is an advocacy organization that aims to "help parents and the community reclaim and restore the rights for parents and guardians to parent their minor children, free from government overreach," according to their website.
The proposed ballot language reads, “Shall the written consent from a minor’s parent or guardian be required before any entity, person, clinic or school can provide a minor (under the age of 18 years) any non-emergency medical procedure, medication, pharmaceutical, or any gender modification procedure, gender identification, gender-affirming counseling or gender therapy?”
Sanalitro has represented Illinois' 48th district since 2023. She replaced former state representative Terra Costa Howard. She is running for reelection and will face opponent Maria Vesey on the November ballot.
A native of Tacoma, Washington, Sanalitro now lives in Hanover Park, Illinois. Before being elected to office, she worked in sales as a training manager and sales executive for a packaging company.
