Baltazar Perez-Estrada was denied pre-trial release after being charged with the murder of his wife, Maricela Simon Franco. Judge Joshua Dieden granted the State’s motion to deny the release.

According to the Carol Stream Police Department, Perez-Estrada and his wife had a verbal altercation on the evening of March 31st which ended with Perez-Estrada repeatedly stabbing his wife to death. He entered the Carol Stream Police Department around 11:30 the next morning to inform officers he had stabbed his wife.

“The men and women of the Carol Stream Police Department stand by the family and friends of Maricela Simon Franco as they mourn this tragic loss,” Carol Stream Chief of Police Don Cummings said. “Not only has this senseless and brutal act removed Maricela from their lives, but it has robbed two young children of their mother.

Perez-Estrada was charged with five counts of First Degree Murder. It was also determined he entered the United States illegally two weeks before the incident, and was charged with alien inadmissibility.

The couple have two young children who were reportedly present at the time of the murder.

Perez-Estrada will appear in court for arraignment on April 25.
