Rep. Sanalitro Recognizes National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month

State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro is taking a stand against human trafficking and slavery during National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. With nearly 27 million people worldwide falling victim to this global issue, including individuals in our own communities, Rep. Sanalitro is emphasizing the importance of raising awareness and combatting this heinous crime.

In a statement released today, Rep. Sanalitro highlighted the severity of the problem, stating, "Human trafficking is not just an international problem, but one that happens in our own backyard. It is a billion-dollar criminal industry that strips individuals of their freedom and dignity. This month, I met with Kara Doan from Restoration 61 – an organization leading the way in eradicating this heinous crime and bringing healing to victims. Awareness is the first step towards change."

Kara Doan, CEO and founder of Restoration61, expressed the organization's commitment to combating human trafficking in Illinois. Doan said, "Restoration61 is an organization at the forefront of combating human trafficking in Illinois. We hope our advocacy to change state law will prove successful so that we can continue to bring humanity back into the lives of individuals who find themselves victims to this tragic and growing crime."

Rep. Sanalitro is urging community leaders, residents, and local groups to familiarize themselves with the signs of human trafficking. Her office is also working on legislative measures to strengthen state laws against trafficking and provide support to survivors.
