Jaquan Wilkins | DuPage County Sheriff's Office
Jaquan Wilkins who was arrested after leading police on a chase following the alleged robbery of a woman with an infant at the Woodfield Mall has an open attempted murder case pending.
Wilkins was free on bond at the time after being charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated battery involving the discharge of a weapon.
That case is pending after being filed in Will County on June 3, 2018.
Wilkins allegedly shot his then 23-year-old girlfriend and another man at 2 a.m. on a Sunday morning in the summer of 2018.
Romeoville Police officers responding to a report of shots fired reported finding the victims, who suffered gunshot wounds, lying in a residence yard on McKool Avenue in Romeoville.
After first aid from officers and assistance from the Romeoville Fire Department, detectives located Wilkins' car in McCook, where he attempted to evade arrest in a semi trailer parking lot but was eventually apprehended.
In that incident Wilkins was initially held in Will County jail on a $2 million bond.
Running from police appears to be a pattern for Wilkins.
He also ran from police after allegedly holding up a woman with an infant in the Woodfield Mall parking lot before being apprehended by Oak Brook Police following a high-speed pursuit.
The incident began around 2:10 p.m. when Wilkins, armed with a firearm, allegedly robbed the woman.
Wilkins’ vehicle was later located by license plate readers in Oak Brook, prompting a swift response from the police.
A high-speed pursuit ensued, during which the suspect rammed another car and a police vehicle before being successfully apprehended on Southbound I-294 near Ogden Avenue.
Deputy Chief Reid Foltyniewicz commended the resolution of the incident without harm to anyone involved and confirmed the recovery of the firearm used in the crime.
In the most recent incident a DuPage County Judge deemed Wilkins to be a threat to public safety and a high flight risk.
Wilkins faces charges, including Criminal Damage to Government-Supported Property, for ramming a police vehicle with his Mazda during a pursuit following an armed robbery at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg.
The alleged incidents involved multiple collisions, disobeying police orders, and throwing a loaded stolen handgun out of his vehicle's window before his capture in less than an hour after the armed robbery.
