Gail Galivan is a candidate running for a seat on the DuPage High School District 88 school board.

Galivan is a holistic health care professional and has been practicing energy medicine since 1996, concentrating in methods rooted in Chinese medicine and other traditional Eastern styles. She is the founder and Executive Coach/Facilitator and Mindfulness Consultant at Inner Alchemy, according to her bio page at Inner Alchemy Holistic Health Services.

As an Integrative Medicine Research Touch Therapist, Galivan has conducted research on the effects of light touch energy applications in a children's hospital. She is fascinated by the science of epigenetics and the ways that relate to DNA factors that influence health and lifestyle. Galivan studied meditation, tai chi, qi gong, and energy therapy.

In an interview with DuPage Policy Journal, Galivan said that she was running for a seat on the District 88 school board because she enjoyed being involved in children’s lives and that even though she's only lived in the area for a few years, she wants to do her part in ensuring that children receive the best education possible.

"I'm totally committed to doing what’s best for the kids by getting involved. I feel like I have a lot to give the community," Galivan told DuPage Policy Journal. "I feel this race is the perfect opportunity for that."

Galivan believes that her experience as a healthcare professional brings something unique to the table.

"I’m in holistic health and they are integrating mental health programs into the schools, and I want to see that implemented as it should be," Galivan said. "I have experience with online learning after being involved with a non-profit that supported children learning online. I want to make sure the focus is kept on learning."

The DuPage High School District 88 currently oversees almost 4,000 students in two schools containing grades 9-12. The district employs close to 250 classroom teachers averaging about 15 students per teacher, according to the National Center for Education Statistics.
