News from the Village of Woodridge

April 8, 2022

Dear Patrick,

The Kiwanis Club of Woodridge recently adopted a highway to help keep Woodridge roadways looking clean and free of litter. The Kiwanis Club of Woodridge Adopt a Highway sign is located at Woodridge Drive and 75th (southeast corner). There is another one just like it at Janes Ave. and 75th St. (northwest corner). DuPage County prefers that each group clean the area four times per calendar year. Thanks for helping to keep Woodridge beautiful, Woodridge Kiwanis!

Crews to Begin Site Grading For the New Police Department & Public Works Facilities Project

The Village Board approved an agreement at the Thursday, April 7, Board Meeting so that its contractor, Harbour Construction, can award the first contracts for site excavation and related work at the future Woodridge Police Department & Public Works site beginning this month (weather permitting). This exciting first step will see the removal of soil and other earthen materials, and begin forming the new elevations and slopes. This will set the stage for the final grading and the actual construction of the facilities and related infrastructure. The site grading this month is a significant project milestone.

The future facility will be on the vacant land at the northern end of the former Wilton property between Janes Ave. and I-355 near Jefferson Jr. High School. The site grading will make the property drivable for construction trucks, , it will build the drainage patterns that were designed in the stormwater engineering plans, and it will stabilize the land next to the construction site in preparation for the building construction.

As crews use bulldozers, excavators, and other equipment on the land, Village staff will continue to work on finalizing the plans in advance of the official groundbreaking planned for mid-May. The Village’s Plan Commission is scheduled to hold a formal Public Hearing on the project, which will include review and input on the site plan, engineering, landscaping, and architecture plans, on Monday, April 18 at 7 p.m., which is the next step in the Village’s zoning and entitlement approval process for the overall project. The meeting is open to the public. Please visit the Woodridge New Facility Needs website for more information.

Drop It and Drive: April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month

Woodridge, Ill.– April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and the Woodridge Police Department is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police and more than 200 local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to remind motorists to “Drop It and Drive.”

“Texting while driving puts everyone on the road at risk by distracting a driver visually, manually and cognitively,” said Deputy Chief Tom Stefanson. “During Distracted Driving Awareness Month, we’re working to increase awareness of these dangers and encourage all motorists to give driving their full attention.”

At a time when traffic fatalities are on the rise in Illinois and across the country, the Woodridge Police Department is committed to reducing the traffic crashes caused by distractions like texting or talking on a cell phone.

Motorists can expect to see increased patrols and enforcement zones the entire month of April. Woodridge Police will be ticketing drivers who text or use their cell phones while driving.

The distracted driving campaign is administered by IDOT with federal traffic safety funds.
