Village President Jim Burket has announced his intention to appoint Robert R. Duncan to the Glen Ellyn Village Board of Trustees, following the recent death of Trustee Steve Szymanski. The appointment is pending approval by the Village Board and will be presented at a Special Village Board Meeting on Monday, October 6, 2025, at 6:30 p.m.

The selection process attracted 11 applications from residents interested in filling the trustee vacancy. The Village Board reviewed and interviewed each candidate before making its recommendation.

Duncan, who was born and raised in Glen Ellyn, has served in several community roles including as a member of the Glen Ellyn Civic Betterment Party Nominating Committee, the Ad Hoc Library Committee, and as a board member for the Glen House Food Pantry. He and his family have lived in Glen Ellyn for most of their lives. Duncan stated his commitment to "maintaining Glen Ellyn as a vibrant and desirable community."

According to Illinois Municipal Code, vacancies on the Village Board are filled by appointment from the Village President with approval from the trustees. If approved at the special meeting, Duncan will be sworn in that evening and serve until May 2027. The seat will then be up for election for a two-year term in April 2027.

The Glen Ellyn Village Board consists of six trustees elected to four-year terms along with the Village President. They are responsible for setting policy and approving budgets for village operations under guidelines established by local code.
