ComEd Puts Plan to Install High Voltage Power Line Through Roselle On Inactive Status

Village officials learned last week that ComEd officially put its plans for the proposed West Central Reliability Project on hold, removing it from the utility's list of active projects. The plan, proposed back in early 2016, included the installation of a new 138kV electric line along the I-390 corridor between electric substations in Bartlett and Itasca.

According to ComEd, the purpose of the proposed high voltage line was to ensure adequate capacity of ComEd's system to deliver the power that homes and businesses need. The project has been put on hold because ComEd was able to configure a different solution to meet capacity requirements using existing underground and overhead locations, along with new lower voltage feeder lines.

"This outcome reflects the cohesive feedback our residents voiced and the strength of our coalition of surrounding municipalities," said Roselle Mayor David Pileski. "I appreciate ComEd listening to our collective feedback to revisit their plans."

A coalition of communities, including Roselle, Schaumburg, Hanover Park, Itasca, and Elk Grove Village, was created in 2016 to work together to oppose the line and its 140 to 170 foot poles. The coalition's advocacy included the introduction of legislation in Springfield that could have required the lines to be run underground.
