Details on the suspects involved in the shooting at Oak Brook Mall that injured four should be released Wednesday, Dec. 29.

Oak Brook Police said details on the perpetrators are expected to be released via press conference.

"The State’s Attorney Office and the Chief want to hold a press conference update regarding this incident. I haven’t been told a date or time yet, but tomorrow looks likely. Once I have anything I can share, I will do so immediately. Thank you,” Administrative Sergeant Reid Foltyniewicz of the Oak Brook Police Department told the DuPage Policy Journal.

The Oak Brook Police said on Monday that charges had not yet been filed by the State’s Attorney in the shooting.

“We haven't gotten charges from DuPage County, yet. We are working with the State's Attorney Office on building a stronger case,” Foltyniewicz told the DuPage Policy Journal. “We continue to seek additional witnesses. I will send you updates when I receive them.”

One of the suspects was shot four times in the incident and was one of the four injured. The three others who were shot appear to be bystanders who were out for last-minute shopping.

Another suspect has been identified by police but his name has not yet been released.

The public shooting caused a panic in the mall, sending shoppers fleeing and huddling. Store employees ushered the shoppers to safety.

The location was on lockdown until late in the evening.

The shooting is emblematic of rising violent crimes rates throughout the region.

Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau — a candidate for Illinois 6th Congressional District — said Chicago’s refusal to charge those stealing $950 and under with a felony has led to crime bleeding into the suburbs.

“It puts a lot of pressure on all the police departments around,” Pekau told South Cook News.

One of the suspects was identified as a Chicago resident.
