Illinois health officials recently announced that a new vaccination site has been launched in DuPage County, according to NBC 5 Chicago News.

The new mass vaccination site is located at the DuPage County Fairgrounds in Wheaton and will offer the vaccine to all Illinois residents. State Rep. Amy Grant voiced her approval and announced the news.

"A new mass vaccination site is opening up at the DuPage County Fairgrounds," Grant said in a March 19 Facebook post.

As part of the state's rural vaccination program, additional mass vaccination sites are scheduled to open next week in Edwards, Lawrence, Cumberland, Edgar and Stephenson counties.

“Since day one, our Illinois COVID-19 Vaccination Plan has been an all-hands-on-deck effort, and as the national supply has expanded, so too has the number of locations Illinoisans can get vaccinated – already above 900, and growing,” Gov. J.B. Pritzker said, NBC 5 Chicago News reported.

The governor also recently announced that the state is opening vaccine eligibility to all Illinois residents aged 16 and up on April 12, according to CBS Chicago News. The city of Chicago is excluded from this announcement and will continue to determine who gets the vaccines on its own.

Pritzker said that he believes the state will have enough vaccines to meet expected demand and that he expects to receive approximately 1 million doses weekly by April.

“The Biden administration has met or exceeded all of its vaccine projections to date, and I have every confidence that they will continue to do so,” Pritzker said, CBS Chicago News reported.

Illinois is currently facing a spike in COVID-19 numbers which is interfering with the state's reopening plans, according to Fox 2 Now News.

The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 has gone up almost every day since March 12.

Residents can make an appointment for the DuPage County mass vaccination site here.
